Travel Tuesday || Repost || Cathedral, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Repost from one of my earliest posts, when I didn't have very many followers. :)

This is from when my husband and I were dating.  My dad and I went to Brazil to meet Peter's family.

Photos from in, around, near the cathedral in Sao Paulo...

It doesn't rival the Cathedrals in Europe, but it is still beautiful, nonetheless.

Petropolis, Brazil - The Cathedral

Well now I'm finally sharing the photos of the cathedral.  Don't blame me - I kept asking Peter for them, but he was super busy.

This cathedral isn't as grand as most of the cathedrals in Europe, but it's pretty cool nonetheless.  And it's in Brazil...

trying to be artistic...

I loved the layers of triangles, circles, and squares

The cathedral is, obviously, very beautiful, and we were grateful that something was open for exploration that day (we went on Ash Wednesday, not realizing it's considered a holiday in Brazil and literally everything was closed, even restaurants, except for the Catholic church, of course).

We can't wait to go back to Petropolis and look around at all the other historically cool buildings, museums, homes, gardens, etc.

Santa Teresa

There is an old Catholic church at the top of the Lapa steps.  The main property gate was open, but the church gate was locked.  There was a cute golden retriever dog that saw us and began barking.  That drew the attention of a janitor who came over and opened the gate for us!  He opened a door to a small chapel on the side of the main sanctuary.  Although we couldn't see inside the main building, we were happy to see the beautiful chapel and were grateful for such a generous janitor.

Inside the small chapel:

"for your love, my only one adored, this 'claustro' I searched, austere and dumb and, finding you here, crucified, in you I found everything"
