Exciting Collaboration with my Dad!

I'm excited to announce that my dad and I are going into business together... kinda....

Ok here's the story:

My grandpa always loved making ceramics and pottery. I always loved sitting with him in his shop, painting extra pieces he had around. My dad has since carried on the artistic gene, and even though he's a math and history teacher, he still finds time to work with ceramics.

My dad gifted me a set of these hand-made ceramic nativity people, and I treasure it. As a child my favorite thing about Christmas was setting up the nativity scenes. My mom had a large collection of nativity scenes made up of a wide variety of materials - from painted wood to clear glass. I loved setting them up around the house, and I was very picky about how they should be arranged (Wise men must be in a group! Shepherds must be with the sheep! Cows - stop trying to eat the hay out of the manger!). Now as an adult my favorite Christmas decorations are nativity scenes. I hope to have a collection like my mom's someday.

So now my dad and I have teamed up to well his hand-made ceramic nativity sets on Etsy.  Each nativity scene is hand poured, fired, and glazed by my father.

These are delicate pieces of art. They would make lovely gifts. We also hope to add some more ceramic pieces in the near future - he has some beautiful pots and vases that he's been working on.

If you are interested in getting one of these nativity scenes for yourself or as a gift, check out our new Etsy shop.  We are called "DaddyDaughterCeramic": https://www.etsy.com/shop/DaddyDaughterCeramic?ref=pr_shop_more

Do you love nativity scenes as much as I do?

DIY Glass Jar Lanterns || Dollar Store Craft

I can't give credit to myself for this idea.  Jamie, who writes the blog Anderson + Grant, posted the tutorial on Craftberry Bush.  Both are blogs I follow and love.

This project was inexpensive and quick.  I got all the supplies from the dollar store.

Three jars - $3
Two packs of 2 LED lights - $2
One package of rocks - $1
Hot Glue Gun - Already had
Twine - Already Had
Total for 3 lanterns = $6 or $2 each.

While I didn't invent the idea, I can certainly show you some ideas for how I'm displaying these cute jars around my house.

You can vary the size and amount of twine you use.  You don't have to use rocks and LED candles - fill with colored sea glass, seashells, or other trinkets you want to display.  Other ideas include filling them with succulents, using real candles, hanging them from your porch, putting them outside your front door, on your night table, any end table, next to your kitchen sink, basically anywhere you can think of.

Going on a picnic?  Take a few of these.  Having a BBQ?  Put a few of these around your grill.  Having some friends over?  Scatter some large and small lanterns, with real candles, around your house for a relaxing vibe.

My husband loves how these turned out and wants me to make many more to put around the house.

Do you think you'll give this super easy diy project a try?

The Wedding Decorations

I wanted my wedding decor to be feminine and romantic.  Even though we weren't having a traditional "tea party," I still wanted it to feel like a tea party.

My cousin, Sara, did the decorations (and all the flowers), and they turned out ah-mazing.  My favorite part about the wedding was the decor.  I told her a general idea of what I wanted (pink, yellow, soft, romantic, somewhat vintage, tea party, etc.), and she nailed it!  I couldn't have been more happy!

The beautiful chairs that we didn't even sit in - we were too busy talking to friends! :)

DIY heart "garland"

A few days ago I made a garland of sorts to decorate my kitchen's back wall.  I cut out hearts from scrapbook paper and affixed them to twine.  I did five strands and attached each of them to a long one that hangs across....  What do you think?

Book box - tutorial

I've seen this project on various sites so I thought I'd try my hand at it...

In a nutshell:
1.  Take a pretty book   2.  Glue pages together   3.  Cut a hole on the inside   4.  Use it to hold jewelry or flowers, hide valuables, etc.

Find a pretty book (Poems of Emily Dickinson).
